IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome Manchester Hypnotherapy
IBS can affect anyone at any age and around 1 in 5 people suffer with the disorder. In IBS the function of the gut is upset and this may manifest itself with pain and discomfort, others may suffer bloating and bouts of diarrhoea or constipation, or a combination of both, ranging from mild to severe.
In some cases people may experience feeling sick, headaches, belching, poor appetite and muscle pains.
We know that bouts of IBS can be aggravated by anxiety or stress and that the constant concern or worrying about the IBS then serves to increase the effects.
A recent study of 250 patients conducted by the professor of Gastroenterology at South Manchester Functional Bowel Service, Peter Whorwell, showed that by using 12 one hour sessions of Hypnotherapy, patients who were explained to how the gut works and what causes their symptoms in addition to using the gentle relaxation therapy, learned how to gain control of their gut function. This helped them change the way the brain regulates their gut activity, reducing symptoms and in some cases removing them altogether.
Hypnotherapy can assist in getting to the crux of the problem, this gives you the ability to manage the stress that may be bringing on the IBS attacks or increasing their severity
